Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck is the eighth installment in New York Times best-selling author Jeff Kinney‘s long-running series of books. In this installment, after Gregory Heffley’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson, gets a girlfriend, finding new friends suddenly becomes a tough task. Eventually, Greg leaves his decisions up to a Magic 8 Ball toy he finds under a bed. During that time, he finds a secret shelf of parenting books his mom had recently been using to try to get him some new friends. However, his luck runs dry when the Magic 8 Ball breaks. Will his luck turn around, or is this just another hard-luck story? Read the book to find out!
I personally think this book is a great read for kids ages 8-12, and it’s also an excellent addition to the series. (Of course, if you want to know about the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, due in November, check out the book review about the ninth book.) However, the cover illustrations sort of, kind of overemphasize the number 8, but that’s okay, especially considering that they’re hilarious. Four words: It’s raining 8 balls! (LOL!)
FUN FACT: This book was released November 2013, and I also found that the ninth book was released in November 2014. Apparently, there’s a new book released annually every November. That’s really cool, to release a book every November, since it leaves readers hungry for more.
